PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely heat the billet to the desired semi-solidified condition, and to stably provide a product of excellent quality. SOLUTION: A metal billet 2 is loaded on a pedestal 16 in an upright posture, a coil 18 to constitute an induction heating device 10 surrounds the billet 12, and the prescribed distance H is set between a lower end part of the coil 18 and an upper surface part of the pedestal 16. When the billet 12 is induction- heated through the coil 18, the center side of the lower end part of the billet 12 is adjusted to the heating condition at lower temperature compared with that on the center side of the upper end part, a bulky silicon part 46 is provided on the lower end part side, and the self-supporting stability of the billet 12 in the semi-solidified condition can be improved.
