The operating device has a pressure converter (103) with two or more successive expansion chambers (105,129) which can be pressurised by a first pressure fluid system (107), and at least one expansion chamber (109) connected to a second pressure fluid system. The converter comprises a setting member (101) with surfaces (104,130), which can be moved in steps, so that the piston-cylinder units (118-225) connected to the second pressure fluid system can be switched one after the other.
