PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR HANDLING CONVOYS

A process is disclosed for handling a convoy in the area of an installation for the transhipment of goods. The convoy with the locomotive is moved through the transhipment installation along a stretch of rails. A self-propelling driving unit is led into the area of the stretch of rails through a lock section. The driving unit reaches the convoy in the area of an acceleration section. The driving unit is coupled to the convoy and their functions are synchronised in the area of a synchronisation section. Finally, the current collector of the convoy locomotive is retracted and the convoy is led by the driving unit through a transhipment section without a contact wire. The same operations are carried out in the reverse order at the end of the transhipment section.
