The lift (1) has a cabin or seat (3) without a shaft and sensor monitoring of hazard regions during operation of the lift. A radar sensor (6) has a transmitter and receiver of electromagnetic radiation in the radar and/or microwave regions. An evaluation unit evaluates the frequency difference between the transmitted and received signal. A memory unit reads in a correct reference signal during safe operation. At least one radar sensor (6-9) is mounted in the floor, on the ceiling, on a supporting column and/or on a vertical wall, and at least one radar sensor can be mounted on the cabin or seat.
