The voltage regulator includes an input capacitor (C1) connected between the input (1) and a vehicle electrical system reference potential (GND). A resistance (R) is connected between the input and the supply voltage (Vbat). The switching path of a switch (T) is connected in parallel with the resistance. A control circuit (S) controls the switch to be conducting if the input voltage (Vin) is smaller than or equal to a predefined demand value. The switch is controlled it to be non-conducting if the input voltage is larger.
