The monitor to measure changes in length or gaps in or between component parts of an assembly has a quadrilateral linkage (GV1) with four elastic linkages (GE1) to take up and transfer changes in the position of the monitored component. A second quadrilateral linkage (GV2) carries a sensor (S) to measure length or gap changes. The two quadrilateral linkages (GV1,GV2) are coupled together so that length/gap changes in the measured direction (MR) are transferred in a smaller scale to the sensor (S).
