The component has a coded magnet generator (10) and an associated sensor device (11). The magnet generator and the sensor device are arranged to be movable relative to each other. The magnet generator is arranged inside a diamagnetic or paramagnetic rigid sleeve (6) which is closed from the sensor device. Preferably the magnet generator is formed as a rod or tube with magnetic coding in the longitudinal direction. Alternatively the generator may be a circular disk or ring with circumferential coding. The magnet generator is preferably fixed inside the sleeve. Preferably the generator and sleeve are movable and the sensor device is fixed in relation to them.
