The manufacturing method has a carrier (1) which is coated with a light-sensitive liquid coating (2) exposed to UV light using a relatively displaced light source(4), so that a waveguide (5) or waveguide structure is obtained by hardening of the liquid coating along the displacement path of the light source. A cover layer (6) may be applied over the waveguide or waveguide structure. POLYMERS - The light-sensitive liquid coating may be provided by a polymer which is hardened upon exposure to UV light.
