Increasing speed of colour negative film without impairing graininess

Colour negative film has a base with sets of blue- (BS), green- (GS) and red-sensitive (RS) silver halide (AgX) emulsions containing yellow, magenta and cyan couplers respectively, at least one of which consists of at least 2 layers of different photographic speed. The novelty is that the coupler content of the most sensitive layer is <= 0.05 mmole/m<2> and this layer or an adjacent layer contains a development accelerator or a compound of the electron transfer agent-releasing (ETAR) or adsorbing coupler-releasing (ACR) coupler series, which releases a development accelerator compound of the ETAR series or compounds of the ACR series, with groups having an affinity for silver, on reaction with a developer oxidation product (DOP).
