An apparatus (10) for removing debris (D) from an oil and gas well is operable with fluid pressure that reciprocates a valving member (20) between upper and lower positions. The valving member (20) seals against a piston (30) in a lowermost position so that the fluid pressure can be used to move both valve member (20) and piston (30) downwardly. The valving member (20) has a valving member spring (28) that, when fully compressed, separates the valving member (20) and piston (30). Once the valving member (20) and piston (30) are separated, the piston (30) is no longer supported in the lowermost position because fluid pressure is relieved through the piston bore. A piston spring (40) then thrusts the piston (30) upwardly, causing it to pump fluid from a position outside the lower end of the tool body through an intake portion (14) into a cavity, pulling debris therewith. Pivoting flexible finger members (56, 57) or brushes are positioned at the lower end of the tool body and are moveable between open and closed positions for intaking the debris when in the opened position and for trapping debris when in the closed position. Staging magnets (63) are attached to the body of the tool. The flexible fingers (56, 57) or brushes move the debris from magnet (63) to magnet (63) in stages, finally reaching a storage area.
|
