Data transmission synchronising method for peripheral instrument

The method involves synchronising data transmission between a peripheral instrument (8) and a central control arrangement (1) in a motor vehicle. The peripheral instrument transmits based on an internally produced operating clock, and the central control arrangement produces its own system clock. The operating clock of the peripheral instrument is compared with the system clock and a correction factor is determined in response to a difference. A data transmission clock signal and a data reception clock signal is adjusted according to the correction factor. The comparison of the operating clock of the peripheral instrument and the system clock is preferably performed in the central control arrangement. The operating clock of the peripheral instrument is preferably provided by an RC oscillator.
