The coil assembly is based around a flat U shaped former 3 and within this are ferrite core elements K . Located on the cores are wound coils 4.The coil assembly can be fitted around the rotor spindle of for example a fluid coupling that is mounted on the crankshaft of an engine . The magnetic field generated controls a flow control valve and so controls the coupling.
