Vacuum-operated sleeve valve for air induction tract for motor vehicle IC engine

The valve has a sliding sleeve (9) which opens and closes a port (8) in the induction tract (7) and which is operated by the pressure difference across an integral annular piston (12). The valve is located in one branch of the inlet manifold and has a housing which carries the sliding sleeve, and an elastomeric seat (17) against which the sleeve can be placed to close off the port. The housing has a vacuum chamber, each end (13,14) of which has vacuum connections (26,27) so that the valve is opened and closed by a pressure difference generated across the piston which is integral with the sleeve. Grooves (20,21,23) in the housing and piston carry seals (22,24) for the vacuum chamber. Pins (18) connect the seat to the housing. Spigots in the upper and lower halves of the inlet manifold locate and retain the valve.
