Adiabatic cooling of hot, dust-laden, gases in a co-, or counter-flow, system, comprises spraying wash water into the gas stream and trickling it onto the inner wall of the column from an overflow weir. The hot gas inlet is 300-1000 mm below the weir. Also claimed is the apparatus for the above process.
