The machine for covering a stack has four horizontally and vertically adjustable fingers (14) each with an L-shape in plan to support the covering film canopy at its four corners. Each finger supports a rigid stretching band (22) to carry the film canopy over the edge of the finger in an S-shaped configuration and retain it in place. The stretching band and the respective finger can be mounted on a common frame.
