The laying surface for a prone patient has at least one board (1) made of a compound fibre material, containing bulking fibres made of linear organic polymers. The bulking fibres for the compound fibre material are made of aramide. The fibre content is made of rovings, yarns, woven and nonwoven materials. The plastics material is a thermoplastic casting resin, such as epoxy resin or unsaturated polyester or vinyl ester resin, or a thermoplastic material such as polysulphone, polyarylether, or polyether ether ketone.
