The control module (18) has a separation circuit (38) inserted in the current path (34) for switching the controlled drive or valve, coupled on the input side to a safety (protection) circuit (30) and an operating circuit (32) and on the output side to a control circuit (36) for activating the current path. The separation stage breaks the connection between the operating circuit and the control circuit in response to a separation signal (TS), with a safety signal (SU) supplied from the safety circuit to the control circuit, for fail-safe operation of the drive or valve.
