<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a correct torque according to an angle of relative torsion regardless of the direction of relative torsion between two shafts without incurring a higher cost. SOLUTION: In this torque detector, a potentiometer type torque detector is constituted of a detection body part and a working element 22. The detection body part is mounted on one of two shafts interlinked by a torsion bar and the working element is applied on an engaging groove 15b formed on the other of the two shafts. The working element is moved according to the direction of relative torsion between the two shafts and the relative twisted angle and a torque is detected by an electric resistance value of the torque detector varying with the moving value. The engaging groove herein used is a groove with a trapezoidal cross section having a narrow bottom 15b.</p> |
