PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent image and to prolong the lives of a photoreceptor and a cleaning blade, without adversely affecting the rotation of an image carrier by providing the cleaning blade and a control means for controlling the backward rotational amount after the forward rotation is stopped of the image carrier, in accordance with the concentration conditions of toner on the surface of the image carrier. SOLUTION: The backward rotational amount of the photoreceptor 20 is controlled according to the concn. of the toner on the photoreceptor 20 detected by a toner concentration sensor. Then, the photoreceptor 20 is rotated backward by tea amount needed to scrape out the toner and paper dust between the photoreceptor 20 and the cleaning blade 27a, to prevent the rolling up of the blade 27a caused by the fact that a lubricant on the surface of the photoreceptor 20 is scraped by the number of backward rotations more than required. Therefore, a failure in cleaning and the damage and fault of the photoreceptor 20, due to this rolling up never occur. Thus, the lives of the photoreceptor 20 and the blade 27 can be prolonged. |
