PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the discrimination of a specified pattern added to image data after dither processing by setting matrix size of the specified pattern, according to dither matrix size. SOLUTION: Nonlinearity in the output characteristics of the inputted image data is corrected in a firstγtable 1, an output result of the firstγtable 1 is compared with a threshold value stored in a threshold value memory 3 in a comparison processing part 2, and pixel modulation intensity is calculated in a secondγ-table 4. The result of the secondγtable 4 and the specified pattern stored in a specified pattern generation part 6 are added together by an adder 5, an image density level is modulated in a specified pattern density modulation part 7, and the result is printed on a medium such as a sheet of recording paper, etc., through a pixel modulation part 8 and a printing part 9.
