PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of connection defects by shifting the position of a supporting surface by a fiber receiving roller to a coated optical fiber downward or upward from a supporting surface by a fiber receiving base. SOLUTION: The position of a supporting surface by a fiber receiving roller 5 is shifted downward (or upward) from a supporting surface by fiber receiving bases 3, 4 for a coated optical fiber fa. When a fiber retainer 4a is somewhat separated from the fiber receiving base 4, the fracture end part of a cutting scrap fb is jumped upward being supported by the upper supporting surface 41 of the fiber receiving base 4 and, when the diameter of the coated optical fiber is e.g. 125μm, the fracture face E1 is completely deviated upward from the fracture face E2 of the coated optical fiber when the fracture face E1 displaces upward by 125μm. Consequently, since the fracture face E2 of the coated optical fiber is completely and vertically shifted from the fracture face E1 of the scrap fb, mutual rubbing of both fracture faces E1 , E2 is avoided during the opening operation of a cover. |
