The invention refers to a signalling device with testing unit, designed to signal short circuits in medium voltage open-air transmission lines, with the possibility of testing the operational state within a medium range; the device consists of a fault and testing feedback circuit (CADT) that contains an infrared receiver (RI), which receives testing signals from a source (E) on the ground. A Reed contact fault transducer (RD) is connected through a diode (11) to the input of the infrared receiver (RI) and, in case of a short circuit, the fault and testing feedback circuit (CADT) causes a signalling element (ES) to change its position, through a fault relay (R2); the signalling element is brought back to normal position by a reset circuit (CR), through a return relay (R1).
