ATM COMMUNICATION NETWORK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the ATM communication network to have flexible provision for increase in traffic among a plurality of LANs in the ATM. SOLUTION: LANs 2-1 to 2-3 connect to a center network 50 in a star form. The center network 50 is an optical wavelength routing network where a transfer path is fixedly decided for each wavelength. In the case that a cell whose destination is other than a concerned LAN, the cell is transferred to other paths than the path receiving the cell for the time being. Thus, the cell reaches finally a desired destination LAN. A fault in transmission channels is detected and restored through periodic transmission reception of an operation and maintenance(OAM) cell.
