Use of a food-compatible chemical agent to limit, decrease or eliminate swelling of the intestinal wall resulting from eating soluble or insoluble fibre in food. Also claimed are: (i) the synergistic use of a food-compatible chemical agent with soluble or insoluble fibre in food to limit, decrease or eliminate an increase in waistline after eating; (ii) a food composition, formulated as a dietetic bar that comprises bran, wheat, barley, orange peel fibre and oligofructoses syrup containing either 100 ml polyvinylpyrrolidone per 50 g of the bar or 300 mg clay and 100 mg active charcoal per 50 g of the bar; and (iii) a food composition for decreasing the waistline comprising 200 mg clay, 30 mg polyvinylpyrrolidone and 130 mg oligofructose. |
