PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance charging and discharging cycle characteristics by using iron-based negative electrode active material. SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte lithium secondary battery is provided with a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 1 using iron-based negative electrode active material, and nonaqueous electrolyte prepared by dissolving LiN(CF3 SO2 )2 into a nonaqeous solvent. LiFe5 O8 formed by mixing iron hydroxide oxide like FeOOH with lithium slat like LiOH in the molar ratio of Fe:Li of (1:0.1) to (1:0.7) and burning at 450 deg.C or more is used as the iron-based negative electrode active material.
