PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quick and high-accuracy detecting agent for dimethyl sulfide(DMS) by mixing an aqueous solution of silica sol or alumina sol and permanganate to a silica sand carrier, and drying the mixture. SOLUTION: Silica sand serving as a carrier is thoroughly washed with pure water, an aqueous solution of silica sol (or alumina sol) and permanganate is mixed and stirred, then the mixture is dried by vacuum drying to prepare a DMS detecting agent 5. Glass beads 2, separating agents 3, 4 of alumina or silica, the DMS detecting agent, a protective agent 6 impregnated with potassium permanganate aqueous solution into active alumina, and a packing 7 are inserted into a detection tube 1 made of a transparent hollow glass, and both end sections 8, 9 are hermetically sealed. Both end sections 8, 9 are opened by cutting when used. The DMS detecting agent 5 absorbs the test gas and has a hue change via the reducing action of permanganic acid ions, and the presence or quantity of DMS in the test gas can be quickly measured with high accuracy via its observation. |
