摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize high-contrast display as to a projection type display device which mainly uses a high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device as a light valve. SOLUTION: A high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer 108a is sandwiched between a common electrode 5701 and a pixel electrode 107 and a high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer 108b is sandwiched between a pixel electrode 5701 and a counter electrode 1801. The drain terminal of a thin film transistor(TFT) 106 and the pixel electrode 107 are connected through a contact hole 5702. On the TFT 106, a light shield film 109 is formed of resin. The liquid crystal layers 108a and 108b are so formed that the mean particle sizes of drops of liquid crystal or the mean hole diameters of polymer networks are different. The common electrode 5701 and counter electrode 1801 are held at the same potential. When a voltage is applied to the pixel electrode 107, an electric fields is applied to both the liquid crystal layers 108a and 108b, which vary the light transmissivity of the liquid crystal layers. Consequently, the high-contrast display is actualized.</p>
