Data packet transmission method and protocol

The method involves using a sequence controller which can determine the sequence of the data packets to be transmitted when a transmission error is displayed. The data packets which have to be retransmitted are provided again to the sequence control. Preferably, ATM cells, X.25 packets, Frame Relay Packets and any other type of data packets either with fixed or variable length can be transmitted. The sequence controller decides by parameter set by the network administration that single faulty data packets are not retransmitted but dropped. The sequence controller may decide because of the connection specific service quality which data packets to be retransmitted are transmitted in what sequence.
