TRAY HANDLING APPARATUS

A tray handler for use in conjunction with an inspection and handling system for electronic devices, has a fixed base member (704) and a platform (744) that is movable relative to the base member. Sensors (738, 788) are provided on both the base and the platform, with conductors (742, 791) being associated with both sets of sensors. The conductors (742) on the base plate (706) are fixed to the base plate such that relative movement cannot occur therebetween. The conductors (791) associated with the sensors (788) on the platform (744) move with the platform relative to the base plate but are fixed to the platform such that relative movement cannot occur therebetween. Trays (12) positioned on the platform are selectively clamped in place or released for removal from the platform. The selective clamping and release is accomplished by a cam arrangement (712, 718) that is mechanical as opposed to electrical or pneumatic.
