The gold chains are fixed in place by freezing a liquid. The liquid is water with additives to improve stability of the frozen liquid and/or its holding capacity. The additives may be water-soluble organic or inorganic materials, e.g. salt, sugar, etc., especially methyl cellulose, sodium chloride, and/or calcium chloride, finely pulverised organic or inorganic solids, e.g. plastic, flour, etc., emulsive, organic or inorganic materials, e.g. oils, etc., especially thin-flowing oils and mineral oils, and/or further organic or inorganic liquids, e.g. ethylene glycol and/or propylene glycol. The water is frozen using cold liquid and/or solid gases, especially liquid nitrogen, and/or carbon dioxide, preferably gaseous and/or liquid.
