The navigation system stores map information in a store (2) and includes a position detector (3) for detecting the current position of a moving body based on the stored map information. An input device (4) receives a signal fed to the navigation system. A position information decoder (13) decodes a code string or code symbol chain from the input device to provide a position information code. The information code includes the positional latitude and longitude, and a display system (5) displays this information. Provision can be made to provide a route between two points.
