A procedure for determining the operating point of a fan has a differential pressure measured with at least one measuring point at an inlet nozzle of the fan. Thereafter the volume flow is determined. A differential pressure between two planes in the inlet nozzle or between one plane in the inlet nozzle and one point in the surroundings, as well as a total pressure difference between the suction side and pressure side of the fan, and if applicable, the shaft power of the fan, are all measured. Volume flow is determined from the differential pressure. A setpoint determined from the volume flow through an operating characteristic is compared with the measured total pressure difference. If applicable, a setpoint determined from the volume flow through another operating characteristic is compared with the measured shaft power. From the first comparison, or the second, if applicable, the operating point and its efficiency are determined.
