Two or more streamlined side plates (2), open to the rear, are connected to one another by a rising slope (3). The centre axes of the two plates point in the direction of the advancing wave (1) as against the bow parts of the two plates which point towards the sea. The connection between the two plates produces an ascending tapering flow channel (4) which in turn draws off the potential and kinetic energy of the encroaching waves and at the same time hydrodynamically focusses the water masses. These when raised to a higher level can be used as a source of potential energy.
