Sterile filtration assembly for treating e.g. rain water

An assembly is claimed for filtering and purifying rain water and other suitable waste water having a low level of solids or suspended solids for use as shower water, bath water and washing water in private households, and for use as a cleaning water jet in both private households and businesses. The novelty is that: (a) the assembly consists of a water collection tank, a pump, a membrane filter with pre-filter; (b) the filtration process uses a closed concentrate side ('dead-end filter'), and a control unit which regulates the frequency with which the membrane filter is cleaned by backflushing; (c) the assembly also has one or more vessels in which treated water is held prior to use and; (d) a pump for supplying treated water to the end use. Preferably a membrane filter made of polymer, ceramic or carbon (preferably of polysulphone) is used as a fine filter.
