Compounds of formula: C=N-A-W-C(O)-Z-R5 (I) are new; (in which A = a group of formula -CR1R2-CR3R4- (A1) or -CR1R2-CR3R4-CR6R7 (A2); W, Z = O, S or substituted N; R1-R4 and optionally R6 and R7 = H or optionally substituted alkyl, allyl, vinyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclic, heteroaryl or aryl groups, or any two R groups which are separated by /} 2 carbon atoms may form part of a ring system consisting of 1-10 aryl or alkyl rings with or without hetero atoms; R5 = optionally substituted alkyl, allyl, vinyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclic, heteroaryl or aryl group). Also claimed are processes for the production of certain compounds (I) in which A = A1 or A2 (compounds II and III respectively)
