A new micromechanical fastening comprises connecting assemblies (8, 9). These interlock and/or interfere, to achieve a fastening effect, based on known mechanical principles. The novel features include the head (5) and stalk, of which the head is more resistant to etching. Head cross section exceeds minimum stalk cross section. Numbers of such connectors are attached to a substrate, forming an assembly (8, 9). Assemblies combine to make a micromechanical rip-type or velcro-type fastener. Also claimed is the method of making the fastening described.
