The splint, comprising a shell (1) of a relatively rigid plastics material, e.g. with a removable foam lining, has two apertures (6) for the patient's malleoli situated at the junction of its leg (2) and foot (3) sections. The apertures (6) are relatively large and symmetrical and are circular or, in a variant of the design, triangular in shape. Where the apertures are triangular, each is in the shape of a right-angled triangle with its right angle situated on the heel side of the splint's ankle section. The leg section has an elongated aperture (10) at the back to free the Achilles tendon.
