INLINE ULTRA-HIGH EFFICIENCY FILTER

An inline ultra-high efficiency filter which achieves a 9 LRV efficiency comprises housing (10) having a chamber extending the length thereof, an inlet (16) and an outlet (18) providing flow passages into and from the chamber. Seated in the chamber is porous sintered metal filter element (12) having a tubular body open at its end adjacent inlet (16) and an end wall (28) at its other end adjacent outlet (18), and filter element (12) having an internal flow passage (30) extending therein from inlet (16) to end wall (28). A sealing weldment (38) provides an air tight seal between the periphery of filter element (12) and housing (10) adjacent inlet (16). Filter element (12) is spaced from the wall of the chamber to provide plenum space (24) thereabout, and a gas stream entering the inlet end of the filter passes into internal flow passage (30) of filter element (12) and outwardly of the body of the filter element (12) into plenum space (24) and thence outwardly of outlet (18).
