Servo drive for vehicle roof panel

The compact servo drive is fitted to the front of a roof opening in a vehicle and comprises a motor (11) and attached two stage reduction gearing. A first reduction stage (3) is aligned coaxial to the output drive shaft (12) as is a second stage, epicyclic reduction gear (4). The epicyclic reduction gear comprises an outer ring gear (42) with inner teeth meshing with an inner gear (41) which has less teeth than the outer gear. A position sensor comprises a disc with holes or recesses and is attached to the inner gear wheel with the angular position monitored by the sliding contact of a position sensor (25). The output drive shaft is connected directly to the sliding panel drive linkage.
