The work-clamping jaw has a main body (101) with an elongated hole which slides in the lengthwise direction on the table. Two part-conical supporting faces (105, 106) are provided on the body, and against them two mating faces (107, 108) on a clamping wedge (102) bear. The wedge slides and turns on the body, clamping the work in place. The supporting faces can be parallel, those on the body being concave and those on the wedge convex, or vice versa. An elongated hole (110) may be provided in the wedge at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the body. A screw (103) in the hole presses the wedge against the body, compressing a spring (104) in the process.
