Method for cutting a whole cheese and installation and apparatus for carrying out the method

The procedure is for cutting up round cheeses into portions for packaging. It involves first cutting each cheese diametrically into two halves (2), rotating them so they face in the same direction, and then transferring each half to a portion cutter (9) which rotates the half cheese horizontally in steps so that it is cut into equal portions. The machine used for the procedure consists of a conveyor (1) which takes the cheeses from a storage point to a cutting zone where they are first cut in half across the direction of the travel of the conveyor. The halves are then rotated through 90 degrees so that their cut sides face the same way on the conveyor, and then transferred to the portion cutter with fixed (11) and mobile radial (12) blades. Each mobile blade is equipped with an ejector to deliver each cut portion onto an output conveyor to take it to a weighing and packaging unit.
