859,849. Semi-conductor devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 28, 1958 [April 3, 1957], No. 10925/57. Class 37 A semi-conductor device comprises a base electrode which is cooled by cooling fluid and releaseably clamped 15 an electric terminal having inlet and outlet fluid connections, the terminal and the electrode forming a fluid tight chamber. The Provisional Specification Figure shows four such devices clamped to a bus-bar 2. In each case a germanium rectifier element 15 is fixed to the closed end of a hollow base electrode 7 which is screwed or clamped to a terminal 3. A hollow tube 12 carries cooling liquid from inlet 11 to the inner face of electrode 7 to outlet 10. A ring 14 couples adjacent pipes 10 and 11. The Complete Specification Figure shows 24 such devices clamped on an assembly having, two D.C. output bus bars 21, 22 and 3 A.C. input bus bars 23, 24 and 25 on an insulating panel 20. Fuses 26 are provided in the connections between the rectifying elements. Coolant is supplied via pipes 29. The arrangement facilitates the replacement of individual rectifiers. Specification 787,389 is referred to. |
