<p>A reinforced structural member (50) has a bulkhead (68) having a layer of thermally expanded resin (74) disposed between opposed side walls (70, 72). A sleeve (81) is retained within the resin layer and is oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the reinforced structural member. The sleeve is an alignment with bolt holes in opposite sides of the reinforced member such that a bolt 84 can be inserted there through. A component, eg an engine cradle for a vehicle can then be bolted to the reinforced structural member at the site of the reinforcement. The invention not only increases the strength of the part, but also reduces vibration and noise transmission.</p> |
