Cyclo-olefin copolymers (COC) with a soln. viscosity ( eta ) of more than 0.25 dl/g (in decalin at 135 degrees C) (I) contain polymerised units of (A) cyclic olefin(s), (B) opt. acyclic olefin(s) and (C) units contg. functional units which are (a) derived from a cyclic olefin and contain hetero atom(s) attached directed to a ring atom, or (b) derived from a cyclic or acyclic olefin and contain gp(s), with two heteroatoms attached to the same C atom, or (c) derived from a cyclic or acyclic olefin and contain aldehyde gp(s)., or (d) derived from a cyclic or acyclic olefin and contain gp(s). with an N atom attached to C via a double bond. If the functional units (C) are derived from a cyclic olefin, exactly two adjacent C atoms of this gp. are built into the main polymer chain. Also claimed are (i) the prodn. of (I) by reacting a double bond-contg. COC (II) in inert solvent with ozone; (ii) coating materials contg. (I), opt. together with binders, paint additives, pigments and/of fillers; and (iii) adhesion promoters contg. (I). |
