PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a TiB2 -based ceramic having an electric resistance almost not changed from a value before its oxidization even after its oxidization in a high temperature atmosphere, and used for a level sensor in a molten aluminum bath by containing a specific metal or its compound. SOLUTION: This TiB2 -based ceramic is obtained by adding powders of known nickel, nickel boride, titanium, titanium boride, monoboride, diboride and penta diboride of transition metals, B4 , C, ZrO2 , Ti (C, N), TiC, TiN and ZrO2 to a TiB2 powder as a major component and further adding 0.1-35wt.% powder of one or more kinds of either one of or both of metals of V and Fe or their oxides, borides, carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides based on the total weight, forming by compressing the mixed powder, sintering under vacuum or under a neutral or reducing gas such as argon gas or sintering by a hot press, and performing HIP-treatment as necessary. The obtained ceramic does not change its electric resistance value at 700-850 deg.C. |
