PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for a heat transfer tube, so that a good hydrophilic property can be obtained. SOLUTION: A hydrophilic film forming agent, which has a resin and silica as main ingredients, and which has the solids weight ratio of the resin to silica (resin/silica) of 0.03 to 0.5, is applied and baked to the surface of the heat transfer tube, so that the hydrophilic film is formed on the surface of the heat transfer tube in a thickness of 0.1 to 10μm. The formed hydrophilic film is flushed. The flushing is preferred to be done in a method in which the heat transfer tube is soaked in water for 10 minutes or longer, or which 3 liters per 1 m<2> or more of water is poured on the hydrophilic film formed surface of the heat transfer tube to flush the hydrophilic film which is formed on the surface of the heat transfer tube. Therefore, the pollutant which is adsorbed on the hydrophilic film of the heat transfer tube surface is eliminated by being flushed, so that the heat transfer tube is excellent in hydrophilic properties. Therefore, the heat exchange properties of the absorption refrigerating machine using the treated heat transfer tube is improved.
