PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for manufacturing low-pressure double layer glass which is capable of maintaining long-term durability, eliminates the need for the treatment of a discharge port, makes the trace of the discharge port entirely unidentifiable and is easy to work. SOLUTION: A spacer is disposed to either one sheet glass of two sheets of the sheet glass 2, 3 and in this state, a sealing material 5 mainly consisting of an org. high-polymer material thicker than the target spacing is disposed at the peripheral part of the sheet glass in such a manner that at least part thereof is made to remain as an opening. The other sheet glass is thereafter superposed on the one sheet glass to form a laminate. This laminate is introduced into a reduced pressure chamber and is subjected to a pressure reduction down to the prescribed pressure or below and thereafter, gas is introduced into the chamber, by which the laminate is pressed and the sealing material is force spread to close the opening. |
