The seat and backrest sections are joined to telescopic tubes containing angled slots, the tubes rotating as a follower part on a runner is moved to engage with the slots. The mechanism is used to alter the angle and/or position of two or more sections (2, 4) of a motor vehicle seat (e.g. seat and backrest) relative to each other, or together relative to a reference plane. The seat sections are joined to telescopic tubes (1, 3). A runner (5) can be moved backwards and forwards in and out of the tubes. A follower part (6) attached to the runner engages with slots in the tubes. Orienting the slits at an angle to the tube axis causes the tubes to rotate.
