PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional fiber exhibiting an excellent deodorizing activity against malodors containing carbonyl group-containing compounds such as tobacco smell, acidic compounds and basic compounds, excellent in a performance for decomposing tobacco tar, easy in handling, good in safety, processability and washing resistance and little in the deterioration in the physical properties of the fiber itself, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This functional fiber has titanium dioxide particles having a photocatalytic action on the surface of the fiber in a monolayered state. The method for producing the functional fiber comprises dispersing the titanium dioxide particles having the photocatalytic action in a solution controlled to a lower pH than the isoelectric point of the titanium dioxide particles and subsequently bringing an acidic group-containing fiber into contact with the dispersion to adhere the titanium dioxide particles to the fiber in a monolayered state. The method for producing the functional fiber comprises dispersing the titanium dioxide particles having the photocatalytic action in a solution having a higher pH than the isolelectric point of the titanium dioxide particles and subsequently bringing a basic group-containing fiber into contact with the dispersion to adhere the titanium dioxide particles to the fiber in a monolayered state. |
