CONTROL DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make setting of the shift range of an automatic transmission without causing shortage of the torque capacity of a friction engagement element and without generating a down-shift to the shift range which enables engine brake resulting from failure. SOLUTION: A control device for an automatic transmission is equipped with a condition meet judging means (Step 4) which judges that the predetermined conditions are met and a pattern setting means (Steps 5 and 6) which includes solenoid valves for setting the shift range enabling engine brake on the lower speed side than the given shift range and establishes different combination of on-off state of at least two solenoid valves for the on-off combination of the solenoid valve for setting the shift range in case judgement is passed that the given conditions are met.
